Meet the FISH team!

Meet the Team! Wednesday, May 1: 3:00-4:00pm at the Watershed Science Center.

Spring has been very busy at the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery as the Department of Fish & Wildlife Staff (DFW) get ready to release the Chinook smolt into Issaquah Creek. The best guess currently is Wednesday, May 8, but a number of factors can change that. FISH has also been busy hiring a team! Taylor McAlister joined FISH in March as the education coordinator & has been diligently working on refreshing the education curriculum for presentations, tours and summer science camps, while attending school smolt releases & science fairs.

In April, FISH hired Natasha Kacoroski as the outreach/volunteer coordinator. Natasha brings her many talents and enthusiasm to FISH and one of her first projects will be setting up the underwater salmon cam in anticipation of the smolt release. Welcome Natasha!

Wish Our Chinook Smolt Good Luck!

At the beginning of May, DFW hatchery staff will begin releasing almost 3 million Chinook smolt into the Issaquah Creek. Currently, in the viewing windows, the public can stop over and say good luck to the juveniles before they begin their journey to the sea.

Located 15 miles east of Seattle along the I90 corridor, the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery is FREE and open to the general public from dawn until dusk. Situated in the heart of Downtown Issaquah, the 88 year old hatchery is an outdoor education center featuring viewing windows and bridges, salmon and trout raceways, an aquarium, interactive 37 exhibits and displays, a native plant garden and a fish ladder.

Currently over 500,000 juvenile Chinook can be viewed from the windows! Plan your trip!

Book a Spring Tour

We are delighted to be able to hold Winter/Spring guided tours starting the week of April, May & early June — almost three whole months of tours!

Public Guided tours last 45 minutes and feature many of the hatcheries educational spots, are $10 per person as a donation to FISH and should be booked, at least 2 weeks before your desired tour date. To book, please contact us.

School Educational Tours ($5 per student) can be scheduled at least 2 weeks before the tour date. Contact us.
