Coho Salmon Released upstream
Why are there large adult salmon further upstream? Happy to announce 2,469 coho salmon were released upstream to date! Hatchery Fish & Wildlife employees, aided by FISH volunteers did the releasing in two batches. The public can view the releases as well as spawning on Tuesday mornings at the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery. The best place to view the coho upstream from the hatchery, is at the Newport Way bridge and along the Issaquah Creek trail. You can also view the creek from the nature park just south of the downtown.
Hatcheries are essential to meet tribal fishing obligations and to provide salmon for commercial and recreational fishing, orcas, and other wildlife.
