Become a Volunteer

Join our team of volunteers! The Friends of Issaquah Salmon Hatchery has year-round opportunities for volunteers to engage with the public, work with schools, or assist with hatchery operations. We would love to welcome you to our organization.

Provide educational tours to schools, students, families and adults.

Lead Hatchery Tours

Assist Hatchery Staff

Engage the Public

Represent us at local schools during their STEM, sustainability or science fairs.

Fun and Rewarding Work

As a volunteer you will learn a lot about our local salmon, meet many interesting people, and receive:

  • Thank you notes from children.
  • Free comprehensive training, a guide manual, and FISH guide.
  • An invitation to our end-of-season volunteer appreciation night for a salmon dinner.
  • The knowledge that you are making a difference in the community.

How to Sign Up

  1. Fill out an online Volunteer Interest Form (button below).
  2. FISH will send you paperwork and code of conduct forms, sign you up for our newsletter and add you to our volunteer database.
  3. Attend an orientation (typically during the first week of each month). Orientation includes a hatchery tour and welcome to FISH presentation.
  4. Education and FISH docents will also need a background check.

Students are welcome to join us. Please state student intent on the Volunteer Interest Form.
