Join our team of volunteers! The Friends of Issaquah Salmon Hatchery has year-round opportunities for volunteers to engage with the public, work with schools, or assist with hatchery operations. We would love to welcome you to our organization.
Lead Hatchery Tours
Provide educational tours to schools, students, families and adults.
Assist Hatchery Staff
Help with salmon spawning (fall), egg picking (winter) and ponding (late winter).
Engage the Public
Participate in Salmon on Sunset (September), Baby Salmon Send Off (spring), and Salmon Days (October).
WOW KIDS AT SCIENCE FAIRS
Represent us at local schools during their STEM, sustainability or science fairs.
STAFF OUTREACH EVENTS
Answer questions at a hatchery information booth or at the FISHop Gift Shop.
HELP US GET CRAFTY
Help prepare the children’s arts and crafts activities at events.
Fun and Rewarding Work
As a volunteer you will learn a lot about our local salmon, meet many interesting people, and receive:
- Thank you notes from children.
- Free comprehensive training, a guide manual, and FISH guide.
- An invitation to our end-of-season volunteer appreciation night for a salmon dinner.
- The knowledge that you are making a difference in the community.
How to Sign Up
- Fill out an online Volunteer Interest Form (button below).
- FISH will send you paperwork and code of conduct forms, sign you up for our newsletter and add you to our volunteer database.
- Attend an orientation (typically during the first week of each month). Orientation includes a hatchery tour and welcome to FISH presentation.
- Education and FISH docents will also need a background check.
Students are welcome to join us. Please state student intent on the Volunteer Interest Form.
