HUGE Thank you to our Friends of Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH) volunteers who logged 1018 hours of service to Salmon Days – the FISH organization had +51 FISH docents answering salmon questions, handing out outreach swag & educating the public about our iconic Pacific salmon! If you see a volunteer in a FISH vest while at the hatchery, please take a moment to thank them for such momentous service to the community and the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery.
The WDFW staff & FISH volunteers conducted the first two days of spawning on Tuesday & Wednesday (10/1 & 10/2). New totals:
No Coho have been spawned yet, but there are about 100 in the trapping ponds.
The WDFW staff & FISH volunteers conducted the first two days of spawning on Monday & Tuesday (9/23 & 9/24). 1.25 million Chinook (King) salmon eggs were taken, fertilized and placed into the incubation trays! The beginning to a new generation of salmon! 59 natural origin Chinook were released upstream!
The hatchery manager also added some fertilized eggs to the FISH aquarium, so stop on by to check it out! Open 8:30-4:00pm daily.
Salmon on Sunset was SO much fun! Attendees raced ducks, fed the trout, listened to the orchestra, ate lunch at the food trucks, learned about our partners, listened to three different rock bands, learned how to fly cast, catapulted a salmon through a culvert, purchased exclusive hatchery ornaments and t-shirts, found the scavenger hunt critters and welcomed the salmon home!
Thank you to all of our supporters, volunteers and partners for such a wonderful event.
See you next year!
The Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH) is pleased to share the underwater salmon cam: click here – to view our miraculous salmon. The Chinook have journeyed for 2 weeks & 42 miles through 10 cities to get to the hatchery. There are currently dozens in Issaquah Creek. The Coho will join them in early October.
