Fire at the Hatchery Volunteer Office

Dear Issaquah Friends and Neighbors,
With a heavy heart, we share the devastating news that a fire recently swept through a part of our beloved Issaquah Salmon Hatchery. In the early afternoon hours of April 22, flames wiped out the FISH volunteer office that have long been the backdrop to countless memories, moments of learning, laughter, and connection.
Thankfully, no lives (human or fish) were lost, and our first responders—true heroes—acted swiftly. But the damage is real, and the heartbreak is even greater. The hatchery isn’t just a place—it’s a living thread in the fabric of our town. It’s where children meet their first salmon, where generations come together to witness the wonder of nature, and where our community has found meaning, purpose, and pride for nearly a century.
Losing the FISH volunteer office- is more than the volunteer docent vests, our educational materials & tools, outreach equipment and program supplies it feels like losing a piece of home. Volunteers are the life blood of any organization and FISH was no different.
But if there’s one thing we know about Issaquah, it’s that we rally. We care fiercely. And we rebuild—not just with bricks and lumber, but with heart.
We are beginning the long journey to restore what has been lost. This won’t be easy. But we are committed to rising from this moment with even more determination to protect, educate, and inspire through this incredible place.
Many of you have already reached out with offers of help, and we are deeply moved by your kindness. As we take the first step of a long journey we are still assessing the loss.
