Native Plants:
This portion of the exhibit focuses on the benefits of native plants. The native plants in
Western Washington are a vital part of our ecosystem. They have adapted to the soil and climate
in this area and therefore require less care. Native plants soak up a great deal of water in the winter and
require little irrigation during the summer. Native plants attact wildlife and beneficial bugs
to a garden which reduces the need for pesticides. They also help to reduce erosion
on sloping land and stream banks.
