FISH Classroom presentationClassroom Presentations

Want to bring salmon science to your classroom? FISH offers several programs designed to teach students about Pacific salmon and the importance of watersheds.

In-Class Presentation

"Those Amazing Salmon," primarily for elementary school students who are preparing to visit the hatchery. The presentation consists of a slideshow reviewing the Pacific salmon life cycle along with their habitat needs, predators and challenges, the value of watersheds and hatchery operations.

The details for each grade are as follows:

  • Grades K-1: 30-minute slide show and discussion, acting out the salmon life cycle and sharing time
  • Grades 2-6: 45- to 60-minute slide show, discussion and question-and-answer session. Choice of three activities following the slide show: the Northwest Native American legend (15 minutes), hands-on watershed activity (20-30 minutes) or “Stump the Students” salmon quiz game (20-30 minutes).

Enviroscape:
Students see how pollution can impact watersheds with this interactive, hands-on watershed model.

Puget Sound Game:
Students practice real-life decision making about situations that impact the waters of Puget Sound.

Cost

The in-class presentation given to classes that are preparing for a hatchery field trip is free, although donations are gladly accepted. For the Enviroscape, Puget Sound Game and presentations that do not coincide with a field trip, FISH requests a $25 donation per session. FISH requests a donation of $50 for visits outside of King County.
